Been My Friend

Live at Blackwater Blues Fest 7/4/26
Been my friend since I was young, Back when life had just begun. When my mind gets wound too tight, It settles me down and sets me right. Never needed much to say, Just helped me find a quieter way. When the whole damn world gets loud, It gives my thoughts some breathing room somehow. It’s been there when the days ran long, When everything felt a little wrong. Never fixed me, never tried, Just gave me somewhere calm inside. Takes the edge off, clears the air, Makes a little room when there ain’t much there. Some things leave, some things end— This one’s always been my friend. I’ve watched a lot of years roll by, Lost some people, changed my mind. Made some money, made mistakes, Learned how much a man can take. Through every road I’ve ever run, Every fight I should’ve won, Every night I couldn’t sleep, It gave my restless head some peace. It’s been there when the days ran long, When everything felt a little wrong. Never fixed me, never tried, Just gave me somewhere calm inside. Takes the edge off, clears the air, Makes a little room when there ain’t much there. Some things leave, some things end— This one’s always been my friend. Maybe I found it way too young, Maybe that’s just where I begun. All I know after all these years, It helped me sort through noise and fear. Never asked me who I’d been, Never cared what shape I’m in. When my thoughts all crowd around, It helps me slow the whole thing down. It’s been there when the days ran long, When everything felt a little wrong. Never fixed me, never tried, Just gave me somewhere calm inside. Takes the edge off, clears the air, Makes a little room when there ain’t much there. Some things leave, some things end— This one’s always been my friend. Some things leave, Some things end— This one’s always been my friend.
